Virginian Metal Products Company, Inc. is located in Southwest Virginia and was founded in 1954 by Howard B. Stanton, Sr. He first began a tire sales and auto parts store in 1948 and could foresee the need for truck dump bodies in the area. Small coal mines were prevalent in Southwest Virginia and the coal had to be hauled by truck to the railroad. Coal Haulers were a solid source of business for Virginian Metal for many years. During the coal boom in the mid 1970's, Virginian Metal manufactured as many as 700 dump bodies per year for the mining and construction industries. Once truck mining started a downward trend in the late 1970's, the company had to look at other markets. In recent years, road builders and contractors have become a major market for Virginian bodies. We began building steel contractor bodies and, in 1988, began building aluminum bodies. We also offer specialty bodies built of stainless steel, T1, Hi-Ten, and other alloys. Virginian Metal began building steel and aluminum dump trailers in 1991 and, in 1994, expanded it product line to include the Virginian "Super Light" body featuring a western style crossmemberless design for tremendous weight savings. Virginian Metal also installs air axles, tarp systems, service bodies, and crane systems as well. David R. Stanton, Jr. is the third generation of the Stanton family to continue manufacturing quality truck bodies. The company is striving to modernize the facilities and equipment to better serve market demands. We are transforming our business to efficiently produce customized bodies for each customer's specific application. We are determined that the VIRGINIAN name remains one of the most trusted and respected names in the industry.
